On September 20, 2023, the second WMC2023 World Metaverse Conference, with the theme of "virtual and real symbiosis, industrial empowerment", was grandly held in Anting, Shanghai. The conference is jointly hosted by the China Simulation Society, the China Command and Control Society, and Beijing Institute of Technology, and jointly organized by the Anting Town People's Government of Jiading District, Shanghai and the Metaverse Professional Committee of the China Simulation Society. Ren Aiguang, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ji Zhicheng, Vice Chairman of the China Simulation Society, Ding Gangyi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Computer Science at Beijing Institute of Technology, and Gao Xiang, Deputy Secretary of the Jiading District Committee and District Mayor of Shanghai, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Sun Jin, recipient of the National May Day Labor Medal, recipient of the China Charity Outstanding Contribution Award, Executive President of the China Lu Shang Federation, Chairman of the Arab China Enterprise Science and Education Development Promotion Association, member of the Central Science, Education and Culture Committee of the People's Republic of China, Deputy Director of the Science, Education and Culture Committee of the Provincial Committee of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of SJ International Education Group, was invited to attend the conference.
This conference has invited more than 110 domestic and foreign experts and scholars, including Miguel Nicolalis, the father of the world's brain computer interface, academician of the French Academy of Sciences, academician of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Steve Hoffman, the father of Silicon Valley venture capital, Professor Xu Bin, an international academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the European Academy of Sciences, and Professor Wang Lijun, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, as well as experts and scholars from China Central Television, China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Electronics Representatives of leading enterprises in the universe, such as Huawei, ByteDance, Tencent, Netease, Qualcomm, AMD, Dell, Intel, Epic Games, BMW, SAIC Group, Weilai Enterprise, FAW Hongqi, Geely Automobile, attended the conference and made keynote speeches.
The conference conducted technological exploration, innovative applications, and academic exchanges around key technologies such as brain computer interfaces, digital humans, computing power networks, game engines, sensing technology, spatial computing, and human-computer interaction. Nine themed forums were set up, including industrial metaverse, automotive metaverse, gaming metaverse, medical metaverse, education metaverse, virtual digital humans, cultural and tourism metaverse, and XR spatial computing.
At the meeting, Chairman Sun Jin gave a speech on the relationship between the metaverse, the development of the gaming industry, education, and national policies, stating that the metaverse is a field full of infinite possibilities and one of the future development trends. As the name suggests, the metaverse is a digital environment built by computer technology, but it can synchronize and share data with the real world. It is a new field of human creativity that integrates virtual and real, digital and physical, bringing us unprecedented experiences and opportunities. The metaverse can be an entertainment gaming world, or a virtual platform for education, social, business, and art.
At the meeting, the Shanghai Metaverse Industry Innovation Alliance was officially launched. The alliance will be led by the government, gathering domestic scholars and institutions engaged in metaverse research, focusing on building a strong comprehensive exchange platform for technological innovation and industrial development, and promoting high-quality development of the digital economy.

Sun Jin said that the report of the Party's 20th National Congress pointed out that "education, science and technology, and talents are the basic and strategic support for comprehensively building a modern socialist country." General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that "building a powerful country in education, science and technology, and talent has inherent consistency and mutual support, and it is necessary to organically combine the three and promote them as a whole to form a multiplier effect of promoting high-quality development."
Firstly, we need to clarify the background and importance of proposing the integrated development of education, technology, and talent. From the perspective of the historical mission of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has made a "two-step" overall strategic arrangement to comprehensively build a socialist modernized strong country, proposing grand goals such as building an education, science and technology, talent, culture, sports, and healthy China by 2035.
The integrated development of education, science and technology talents is the internal requirement of Chinese path to modernization. As core variables of the economic and social system, education, technology, and talent are deeply interconnected, interdependent, and interactive organic whole. All three are the focus of promoting national economic and social development, enhancing comprehensive national strength, and international competitiveness.
